Mud Holes Old and New
Acrylic on Canvas.
A part of the “Walkabout” Series, a series inspired by Susan’s imaginings and dreaming of the life her ancestors had on their travels.
This painting is about the connection between a young Susan, her ancestors, her descendants and the earth. Despite the chaos, the displacements, the horrors and dispossessions of her ancestors, the Mud Holes remain the same. As she sees her grandchildren gleefully, naughtily, barefoot, wading through the mudholes, she can also see herself and her Great Grandmother, Maggie Dunn doing the same. She sees also the link between the children of all her generations and all the new cultures and imagines that she sees them altogether, all at one time, still as children, never grown up playfully wading in the Mud Holes.
